The board voted 4–1 to close Monday mornings and instead keep the reading room open until eight on Thursdays. The stated reason was foot traffic: the Monday count has run under a dozen for most of the winter, while the Thursday book circle has been turning people away.
The lone no vote came from Ed Halloran, who has opened the building on Mondays for eleven years and said he intends to keep showing up regardless. No one moved to stop him.
The new schedule takes effect the first full week of July. Returns can still be left in the outside slot at any hour; the slot jammed twice over the winter and has since been widened, which the minutes recorded, in full, as "fixed."
